Ministers Back at Mardi Gras
“And
the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and
because their sin is very grievous;
I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according
to the
Cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.”
-Genesis 18:20, 21
NEW
ORLEANS- Members of the Street Preachers’ Fellowship again
converged upon New Orleans, Louisiana the week end of February 20
-21 for the annual drunken Catholic whoremongers’ riot, to
“cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before”
God (Jonah 1:2). SPF street preachers came from Texas, California,
Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina to stand and rebuke the
wickedness wrought in the open streets of New Orleans, as America
revels in their depravity, while young men die over seas to keep
this country free to sin more and more.
NC Statewide Director Dean Moore
Preaching on Canal Street
Beginning Friday night, SPF Director McRae with Don Scheib and Daniel
Gowen arrived before the others, and made their way down Bourbon
Street to the same brick wall where they stood the year before.
However, upon arriving, the protective canopy was gone, and the
empty storefront open with yet another bar. Accordingly, the three
street preachers did the next best thing, they stood to the side,
and began afresh, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to all that
would hear, and to those who would not hear. Immediately, they were
welcomed with the usual shower of bottles and beads, cans and crud
thrown like missiles in the night.

The crowds were not as thick as normal, but just as wicked, just
as drunk, and just as lascivious. Preaching until midnight in the
700 block of Bourbon Street, the preachers made their way out of
the throng, and came upon their counter parts near the two hundred
block, with SPF Assistant Director Ruben Israel counseling one young
man and his blue haired girl friend, “Look, son, do your self
a great favor, take her in the midst of Bourbon Street and loose
her! Leave her in the crowd and run for it! You’ll never regret
it! She’s not worth going to hell over.” Joining their
friends in that Fight of Faith, the reinforced company now made
their way to Canal Street, and made their wagon wheel defensive
perimeter near the police barricades, and for another two hours
held forth the faithful word.
Daniel Gowen Surrounded and Preaching
With Friends Close at Hand
Joined the next day by SPF Texas, the preachers seemed to be everywhere.
But there was an attraction to Bourbon Street, where the Director
and some of God’s finest stood fast, with their backs against
the wall, and O how they preached. Finding a closed restaurant with
shuttered windows, those fine Texas rangers drew close to Director
McRae, and for almost 8 hours, they preached their heart out at
the ever restless multitude. For the first two hours the drunken
mob rained down beads, bottles and cans upon the preachers, until
the restaurant opened, and the waiter was foolish enough to throw
back the shutters. Hoping the sight of the open restaurant would
scare away the preachers, the waiter only strengthened their resolve
not to move, as the drunken crowd immediately ceased with the bottles
and cans. Said Director McRae, “We learned a great lesson
today: preaching in front of store front windows, cuts down on the
bottles and cans being thrown at you!”
